Project Overview
J.C. Engineers was engaged to undertake a site inspection and provide technical advice for a proposed tile to metal roof conversion at a residential property. The client required engineering input to understand structural considerations, compliance obligations and any risks associated with converting the existing tiled roof to a metal roof system.
Project Assumptions
At the commencement of this engagement, several assumptions were made. Safe access to the property had to be available at the time of the inspection. The existing structure was assumed to be safe for entry and assessment purposes. The site inspection was quoted as a visual, non-invasive and non-destructive assessment only, meaning no materials were removed and no intrusive investigation was carried out.
Scope of Works
The scope included one site inspection to visually assess the property and identify any defects or areas of concern related to the proposed roof conversion. This inspection focused on the condition of the roof framing, existing tie-down connections and any uncertified or non-compliant building works that could affect the metal re-roof installation.
Following the inspection, JC Engineers prepared a Technical Letter of Advice summarising all findings. This letter provided engineering advice on the issues identified during the inspection, including structural considerations and compliance requirements. The advice detailed what may be needed for the roof frame connection and tie-downs to meet current standards for a metal roofing system. The Technical Letter was signed by a Registered Professional Engineer of Queensland (RPEQ) in accordance with legislative and industry requirements.
